Let’s get this easy one out of the way. The first on our list is Shake Shack. It’s delish, it’s mobile, it’s affordable, and it’s a must-have for a first time NYC visitor. If you have one in your town and think you can skip it, you’ll want to keep an eye out on their socials for NYC exclusive menu items. It’ll be worth the trip to the beautiful Madison Square Park.

Burger Joint, on 56th specifically, is an amazing hole in the wall, literally. This spot is located in the fancy Le Parker Meridien Hotel. Upon arriving in the lobby, just follow the line to the glowing burger logo. This burger is messy in all the right ways. Plus, they offer just the needed toppings. You won’t see a burger piled high with mac and cheese, or some other unnecessary burger topping. This place is pure.
📍119 W 56th St, New York, NY 10019
If you want to get fancy and drop $26 on a burger, then Minetta Tavern should be on your list. This Michelin Star Rated restaurant serves two burgers, the Minetta Burger and the Black Label Burger. What’s the difference? The Black Label Burger is dry-aged, comes with no cheese, and has its own custom bun. Go with a buddy, order both, and split them. Then re-order the Black Label Burger.
📍113 Macdougal St, New York, NY 10012
